Pecan Pie Cake

Our local volunteer Fire Department had their annual fundraiser and I made this cake for the auction. It is a Pecan Pie Cake from Southern Living. It is actually easy to make and really good.

Three layers of cake and 2 layers of filling

Pasty leaves made from refrigerated pie crust

Packaged and ready for the auction

Reason # 1: Breast Cancer Awareness month

Our church group participated in an "Art Bra" contest to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. We get to go to the Fundraiser Auction and Dinner this week. I'm excited to be able to see everyone's designs and I'm happy to be able to help. It was a fun group project that supports a very worthwhile cause. Reason #1 to look forward to October.

Little Dresses for Africa

Our church group met and made 45 dresses and shorts to send to orphans in Africa http://www.littledressesforafrica.org/blog/ . I am so privileged to work with these ladies and this has been our best year in a long time for working on mission projects. I thank God for these opportunities to have fun and fellowship with a purpose. We have something in mind for our next project and I am looking forward to helping fulfill a need.

Art Bra Update

Does anyone want to make an art bra and mail it to me for the fundraiser? If you do, then e-mail me kgsoutherncomfort@gmail.com and I'll give you the guidelines. All the bras received get to be in the calendar and the auction. It would be special to have some bras from across the country, signed by the designer to display. I'll take photographs for you and tell about the event, I'm sure I'll even blog about it. Let me know!

Art Bras

A group of church women met last night to listen to guest speaker, Carolyn Jackson, informing us about her experience with breast cancer. She described her journey through treatment and recovery, then we all made art bras to auction off at her Breast Cancer Research Fundraiser. This is being done all over the country and it is so fun to do as a group. I recommend looking into this project in your area and participating. Just look up art bras on the internet and you'll see some fabulous designs. My daughter made the bra above and donated it last night. I think it is beautiful. I brought mine home to finish and I'll put up a picture after it's done.
It just takes a little imagination, some glue, trim and thread to make a huge donation to this worthy cause.
